Mindfulness Facilitation
Co- Creating Your Personal Mindful Landscape
As a trained psychotherapist with Depth, Narrative and Mindfulness training, I can help you find tools that best support your personal practice and also support mental health. This is not psychotherapy. We won’t talk about your mental health symptoms in depth. Instead, you get a menu of options, and a longer explanation of this service, which we discuss.
In Mindfulness facilitation, we will find self-regulation tools that encompass your unique goals including but not limited to:
Finding a challenging and/or doable regular mindfulness practice/ activity.
Being present and noticing, showing up more for what you want to show up for- beauty, love, wisdom, or, my favorite, the weird shit!
Increasing lovingkindness.
Increasing capacity for productivity, change, relating, while staying self regulated.
Integrating your personal philosophy/ values/ spirituality into brain benefitting mindfulness practices.
How my approach differs from other Mindfulness Practices and Mindfulness Based Counseling…
Many Mindfulness movements and Counseling tools like Mindfulness-Based Counseling may borrow from all kinds of spiritual practices and transform them into ‘secular’ tools that persons from any philosophy, spirituality, or religion can use. Mindfulness movements may even specifically have a Buddhist, Yoga, or Christian based program. What’s being left out? Well, quite a bit.
It may not consider:
Neurodivergence - people who are neurodivergent may have sensory issues, may get bored and feel too scattered for traditional approaches.
Other needs - people with respiratory conditions may not be able to do ‘regular’ breathwork common to mindfulness.
Different Learning styles/ Intelligences - Some people don’t have a mind’s eye or inner voice. Others are more physical or relational. There are so many ways to be mindful that don’t involve breathing or observing thoughts!
Triggers and inherent risks - Mindfulness approaches that focus on the breath may be problematic for people with heart, respiratory or seizure concerns. Mindfulness approaches that work with thoughts may trigger past traumatic memories. I explore your needs and concerns in order to co-create a mindfulness practice that is do-able for you.
The role of nature - A lot of mindfulness approaches focus on sitting in one place in a room, or possibly outside. The focus is on doing nothing and breathing or trying to manage thoughts. Man or a deity may be the top of the pyramid of goodness and/or wisdom. Not me, I include approaches that RELATE WITH the natural world- animal, vegetable, and/or mineral. We will explore what beings populate your world and may cultivate greater mindfulness in these relationships.
The role of creativity in mindfulness - Do you know how I know you have internalized a practice? You’ve made it your own! I don’t expect you to necessarily follow the rules like sitting in silence, undistracted. We will explore creative ways to make your personal practice doable for you.
The role of mindfulness in creativity - Do you want to make more art, improve your artistic profession, or make more time to be creative? We can build your capacity for creativity using mindfulness tools. This is an area where I’m challenging myself personally right now and I can testify to the power of little things making a big difference. I’m excited to share them with you!
The role of Dreams and the Imaginal Realm - Traditional Mindfulness Based Counseling and Mindfulness programs are often completely separate from Dreamwork, Depth Psychology, and Narrative Psychology. Instead, the focus is on shedding your ego, your personality and personal story to become enlightened. Did you know there’s more than one way to be mindful? Mindfulness may look like engaging with your dreams to improve relaxation, relating or rejuvenation. You might work with dimensions of your uniqueness to realize a more loving, wise expression of your True Self. We may work with a favorite book, song, or movie to create a personal healing narrative.
Combining a variety of approaches to suit your individual process - For the past 10+ years, I’ve cultivated a mindfulness practice that relates to my dreams. It’s not about an outcome; it’s about my relationship with my personal Dreamworld. I can remember over 150 dreams and add to it yearly by doing this 5-minute practice regularly! I did this using a combination of techniques that I can teach you. You can use the same techniques or put together your own custom mindfulness practice that evolves and grows with you through the years.
Challenge vs Doable - Maybe you struggle with ANY mindfulness practice. Or perhaps you want to challenge yourself for an outcome. The key is knowing when to make it doable, and when to make it challenging, and even how you can do both! We will find that balance together.
